first off, i dont think you can tell how they died by just feeders.. thats only a theory unless you know for a fact it was feeder related.

Let us know your water parameters, how big was were the 2 fish are and a pic of your setup.

and anything than feeders is better for your wallet but they are around the same nuetritionally.
