I have a 16" RTC and he was raised with my Jardini Aro, he started eating floating food sticks, and now he only eats from the surface. swims upright most of the day and not settled on the bottom. He eats like a pig in a fish suit. Should I worry about him?

I don't see why... One of the main reasons for my intrest in RTC's is the close level of interaction possible with them. I began training Lucy (The RTC in my avitar) almost as soon as we got her to take food from our hands. It's not always successful at the moment but eventually she'll learn to eat at the serface.
IMO RTS's show a wide variaty of individual personalities and adaptability.

yea def. not something to be worried about... You might think he looks weird swimming like that... but he knows that's where the food comes from... their gluttons so he's just staying ready hahaha

When we had our 36" RTC in our pond at work, he would always come to the surface and take food from our hands. We would feed him chicken breasts, fish fillets, cups full of pellets, lg goldfish and any freshly dead lg fish. I miss him so...

Try petting it. I love it when you can pet fish.

I have a RTC in a 265 gallon tank thats mounted in a wall.......All I ever see is his belly :( Everytime ANYONE walks up to the tank he's up begging for food. My TSN is starting to do the same also.

Thats why they look so much better in a pond

I don't know if I'd consider that a bad thing, you guys are lucky 3/4ths the time the only time my rtc really does any swimming is when he's tryin to kill his heater.

I agree with liking them in a pond better. Not as good a view, but let's you interact with the fish more. I find fish are less skittish in a pond too.

my rtc eats at the surface. not pellets tho, jus loves being hand fed. my tsn is almost there. he takes floating pellets all day tho.

haha my asian rtc steal pellets from my mom's bloodparrot lol! really a pig in a fish suit! i tried petting my asians rtc the first time and it bit me! now he likes petting/massaging haah le lives like a king =X he not really agressive actually for an asian rtc .cute lil guy =)
