Why my RTC eats at the surface

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, mine has had an "accident". He destroyed his heater this weekend and I think he zapped himself. He will eat if I hand feed him but he's REALLY slow.
I think he'll come back, but he's definetly not normal right now.

My RTC started to only eat from the surface. Kind of makes it tough to feed all the fish. He even is going for the freeze dried blood worms. I notice he started begging also. Thinking about getting a pond set up in the near future.

The begging is more appealing in a pond! It's hard to resist them when you see them begging from above! Thinking about making an auto-matic feeder, that has a plate that my fish can hit when they want food. If they can see me as a way to get food I think they can learn that if they hit the plate they get food.

but dude. they wud hit the auto feeder like 100 times a die then die of overeating x_x but yeh eating from the surface is so much cooler than from the bottom. mine used to eat from the surface in a tank. ever since i put my two 3ft RTC's in my 18ft by 8 ft by 5ft deep pond they barely come to the surface. they only wana sleep at the btm and eat live feeders.

I had a pleco that would flip upside down and eat flakes from the surface. Bastard never ate any algae.
