Why no 5 foot tanks?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bought the Marineland - Top fin, 120 gal. five foot tank from Petsmart about eight years ago. Tank / stand combo was $300 - Black Friday sale.
It's held up really well.
I prefer the five foot 120 over the standard six foot 125 gal. It's a little wider & taller, making aquascaping easier, giving the fish more space to turn around.

It's really noticeable how thin the standard 125s look. Big fish (12" +) have distance and height but little lateral movement especially with any deco. 150 longs are a sweet compromise if you can find one. I've only seen a couple.

It depends on the type of fish you have. For mbuna which top out at 6 inches or less a six foot long 125G tank is a much better option as it allows an extra foot for swimming and generally reduces the overall aggression levels.

Yeah, a 125 or a 120 long, it's nothing really to debate about. The 125 is long & thin, the 120 long has a boxy shape.
Like FINWIN suggested, the 150 long is better than either. The 150-L is a 120 -L + a foot. Lol

A 5ft 120gal is pretty common around here, has been for ages. I've got one running currently and have had one additional one in the past as well.

in the past a post stated , odd foot tanks 5 7 9 is easy on the eyes , after some time yup I get it

I will say in my experiences messing with rack designs, the odd numbered tanks make it tricky to design racks for tanks of different sizes. But they're definitely good as standalone displays, or, if you're willing to get a bunch of them, can be a status symbol to "flex" the fact that you have that many unconventional tanks 😁. People collect 33 longs like that around here.

I have a 5’ Red Sea tank, love the size. (About 5 x 2 x 2 roughly, it’s a metric tank though)
