Why no Stickys?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
99% of the time, links direct posters to the puffer forum and not to information here. The fact is that the information just isn't here in any quantity to be worthy of a sticky.
and quite frankly, I am tired of people trying to talk down the size of MBUs
I wonder who you mean.... Would it be better if I went ahead and said they were 3foot monsters that need 5k tanks? I have presented FACTUAL SCIENTIFIC posts in support of the statements I've made. On the other side, I have only seen opinion that they get to 3'

But I guess they get to 3' since I read that on the forums. /rolleyes

From fishbase (based on the reference Citation Roberts, T.R. 1986 Tetraodontidae. p. 434-436. In J. Daget, J.-P. Gosse and D.F.E. Thys van den Audenaerde (eds.) Check-list of the freshwater fishes of Africa (CLOFFA). ISNB, Brussels; MRAC, Tervuren; and ORSTOM, Paris. Vol. 2.  ):
Size / Weight / Age
Max length : 67.0 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 2829)

67/2.54=26.37" If you would like to redescribe the species, by all means do so, but this is what the science says.

I was also gonna say, sounds like a job for Pufferpunk! :naughty:
LOL, it's enough running TPF.

Clay- Just to make clear, I was not talking about you when I created this thread. I have no experiences with MBU's, and I might even disagree with you arguments.

However, you arguments have some logical merits and bases.

I am instead referring to some other "alarming" arguments for the needs and size of MBUs

No worries.

Purely coincidental.

You are not trying to talk down the size, you are giving your opinions on the max size.

I can understand your opinions. However, I really don't think anyone can say with complete certainty just how big they get because most cannot provide optimum conditions, and there could be a size difference between genders, and I do not know many people who have kept them in optimum conditions for their long expected lifespans. A safer bet would be between 26-36

You are not trying to say I can fit this XXL fish into a tank that he cannot possibly turn around in and cannot carry the bioload.

You are just playing devil's advocate..and not idiot LOL
I assure you this thread did not have anything to do with what you said, at least you acknowledge these fish just get plain ol BIG...too big to be in the aquarium

it would be great to have some good information on puffers..they certainly require alot more fishkeeping skills then many others... would love if you could put it together... it just has to cover everything and be honest info and about all species of puffers and their different requirements etc.. It also must be laid out in a perfectly written and understanding way.. so that everyone can comprehend the information.. go for it.
