I was just curious why people buy c02 reactors or make them, I just thinking that the air around the air pumps would have adiquite c02, 02, to pump into an aquarium if iam not understanding something let me know.

Howdy,

Some people think more is better, but read --> HERE <-- In extremely rare occasions CO2 is indeed the limiting factor, but that's only for people who have a plant tank with some fish, not a planted fish tank ;D

It's not that CO2 is a limiting factor in plant growth necessarily, but more-so with the rate of growth that CO2 induces. Very few will argue against the fact that injecting CO2 into your aquarium GREATLY increases the rate of plant growth. It's beneficial when trying to grow in foreground plants or growing plants quickly to attain a bushy appearance.

I'm also a believer that planted aquariums without CO2 have significantly more algae than those with its addition. Obviously, someone is going to argue against me on this, but in my experience this is what I have seen.

You had mentioned why we don't just inject regular air into aquariums. That's b/c the concentration of CO2 in our atmosphere is much lower than what we can add using DIY or bottled CO2.

Either way, each route you choose (CO2 or non-CO2) has it's pros and cons. You just have to choose which you prefer.

I think there is more to algae problems than light or CO2. First and foremost, algae are a sign of bad water hygiene or insufficient knowledge when manipulating water parameters (e.g. by use of additives such as certain conditioners or fertilizers).

most of the time Co2 is not needed... but it sure helps with a load of different things!!

if ur gonna have a planted tank under 75 gallons u might as well make a DIY Co2 reactor... it cost like $5 to make the reactor and about $6 for a nice ceramic air stone...its 100% worth it IMO. Flourish Excel is also nice, but that isn't really needed either. again its nice to have however....

heres my tank before and after supplementing with Co2.

Before I used Co2

our business check printing company has a 75 gallon tank in our lobby. however, the plants are not growing at all. do you think a co2 reactor will help?
did you really need to throw in a link to your business? :banhim: :irked: :spam:
