ok so i heard that gas prices r going to soar to 5$ a gallon really soon,
i live in ny our prices today are $3.05
already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i want to know why i should pay for a greedy azz oil companys fault of over filling a tanker and having it spill in the gulf...
Killing all types of wildlife, costing the u.s. millions of dollars for clean up,
and skyrocketing an already weakend economies gas prices?????
its insane....
Obviously the right corse of action would be to charge the oil company for there greed in trying to save money in over filling a tanker which is the reason for most oil spills.....
We need tighter regulations and bigger fines on incomin ships that are above there limit..
Such an easy solution which wont ever be found.....SAD

OMFG! Now an oil tanker spilled.
Here I thought the oil spill was the result of an oil rig explosion and fire.
From what I understand the oil from the Gulf gets shipped over seas and is not used in this country.
On a lighter note did ya here that oil is down ten bucks a barrel today?

The citizenry shouldn't have to shoulder ANY of the cost of containment or cleanup. BP posted a quarterly, that's QUARTERLY, profit of 6.08 BILLION dollars. Let the execs cut back to the $100 a plate lunch and they can have the problem cleaned up with chump change they have left over.

DannyBoii, you sure like starting controversial issues....
(BTW, a tanker didn't sink. It was an oil-rig! There's actually a pipe sticking out of the ocean floor that's spewing oil into the sea; it's like an underwater oil volcano).

MANY other industrialized countries require the use of a sonar-enabled shutoff switch. The sonar technology is OPTIONAL in the US, and would have most likely prevented the oil leakage (as someone could remotely trigger the shutoff). CALL your congressperson and tell them your for impossing the remote sonar-switch as a requirement!

Support Senator Menendez (New Jersey) bill that will raise the liability for Oil Companies from 75 million to 10 Billion with a B (I think it should be 100 billion). Again, CALL your Senator and tell them you want them to support it. The bill will be retro-active (meaning BP will have to pay for cleanup and FUTURE liability suits).

BP PROFITS (NET, not gross) 5 billion in 3 months, they can afford to pay for this....
If BP doesn't pay for it, US taxpayers will. You choose!

Support GREEN ENERGY! End our dependence on Oil, and stop giving Iran and Saudi Arabia our money!!!

Also, for you "Drill Baby Drill" ppl. I'm fine with US drilling, BUT that oil needs to stay in the US. Currently, any US oil drilling is sold on the world market (BP, Exxon, Shell etc.. are all international companies). CALL your congress person and say you want US oil to stay in the US market!

Just my few cents... This is an important topic for us fellow fish keepers....

I wish you were right, but I don't see how it's the Government monopoly. It's BIG business monopoly! (you got it backwards!!!) Who funds congress, Corporations. Who lobbies for deregulations, Corporations. Who does Congress work for, Corporations...

Support Campaign Finance Reform! Make contributions over $5000 in an election cycle illegal (from any party). AND make it so only people can donate money! Now Corporations can dip into their pool of profits and donate directly! (TY 2010 Supreme Court ruling overturning 100 yrs of law, god damn activist judges!).

Why do you think there was a Liability cap of 75 million placed on Oil Companies!? THINK DAMNIT!!

You must not keep up with the news...

A couple years ago, the Government of Iraq (going against US pressure) decided not to allow the "Oil Companies" to purchase the oil fields from Iraq. Instead, the Iraqi Government will contain control and sell the oil directly to the world market.
