I fill it up almost to the center brace. The problem is I think is the filters don't fit over the tank all the way.

if you think the water quality was affected for some reason then do a waterchange there is no harm in water change
The tanks water lowered quite a bit and i had to adjust the angle of my filters. I also did a water change.
