I have noticed alot of people on here have the same types of fish. Arowana, dats, CK, GG, etc. Other than the fact that they are monsters, what exactly is your draw to a particular fish. Just curious because some of the typical monsters don't do it for me just on looks. If you have specific reasons for a fish such as personality, I'ld like to know. Might change my mind on some of them and help decide what to get in the future.

I have liked Jardinis and Leichardtis ever since I started to get serious about fish and have always wanted one. I like their shape and grace as they swim through the water even though they are such powerful creatures as all arowana are.
Dats I have only seen on the net as they are illegal in my state but I do like their shape, pattern and colour.
CK to me are not so hot, they look good but I prefer a BGK over a clown any day.
TSN don't appeal to me yet heaps of people keep the but I do like RTC, its to do with shape and size. But I will never own one due to cappy laws.
Peacock Bass is one that baffles me, alot of people like them but I don't. I don't really like their shape or markings all that much and it only goes down hill when they get those stupid bumps on their heads, YUK.

The reason we all seem to be drawn to the same type of fish is cause that is what the site is about, go on a goldfish site and you'll hear about goldfish, Arofanatics and aros etc.

I got the whole they are big and this is MFK part figured out. The rest of your response was the kind of info I was looking for. Why a certain fish. Thank you very much for your reply, I agree on some of those fish.

I have always liked the Arowana..it is sleek and swims with a dignity i do not see in any fish, they are moody and self centered and demand your care and respect.. they are prehistoric and mysterious.. they have a legend.. and i also love the Ck.. they are full of elegance and personality.. i love that they are a predator and also that they can be meek and shy.. i look at them and sense that they are very smart and they have a plan before they react. slow, steady and ready.. and most of all beautiful.. so happy i bought one. I also like the Jag because it is a true cichlid with enormous strenghth and a beautiful jaguar coat... after owning the RD's for awhile you realize they are A pain in the butt BUT worth keeping, they seem so sweet as a baby and grow into a rebel with a cause.. but they are fun with their head banging and biting attacks.. your pitbulls of the fish world, haha thats just some of my reasons..;)

Well I got into the hobby and started keeping ca/sa cichlids, so I have pretty much stayed with them. I like their size and temperment, looks and personality. I have always wanted large fish, to me they are so much easier to appreciate their looks when they are large. IMO they are the most entertaining fish to watch because of the way they interact with each other in a community setting. As long as they are not actually killing each other that is. I think at first I was attracted to their "pearls", now I just wanna own all of em lol.

I am going to start keeping other types of monsters soon. I'm leaning towards getting an aro. Mainly because they are such an impressive sight when large. Also looking at some types of perches or possibly natives. Haven't made up my mind yet lol

Bichirs - there are only a handfull of fish in their shape, and able to breathe air, but i really like how these guys work....they go around just looking for something to eat and they find a fish and BAM they hit him, or they start ripping a piece of shrimp apart.

aros- beautiful, intellegant and fast!
cichla- speed, ]v[onsterslol, intellegant and colors
dats- one of the fish with the most personality, body shape, speed and amazing pattern.

Nice discussion here. :)
i like monsters in general coz of no specific reason...
I like bichirs coz of their personality and cool appearance.
Aros, just the asians and jars. IDK..maybe its the shape.
I dont like catfishes. probably because i already like bichirs and i can only have as much bottom dwellers.
knife fish. i like the BGK more but the CK's ok.
Lungs are cool. Very hardy, very efficient hunters.
Cichlids. I'm an admirer. I respect these fishes. that'll do for now coz i think theyre not as MONSTER as the others.
Dats are great but I've heard too many stories about dead dats. actually made me kinda scared. lol

i always liked predatory fishes that was on top of the food chain pretty kool feeding it and taking care of it until they get BIG
