Oh and if you think Monster Fish Keeping is bad? How about Monster Fish Catching? I swear no one knows how to properly handle large fish on TV. I watch all sorts of fishing shows because I have a 24/7 HD fishing channel and it irks me to no end how they handle the monsters they catch. Now this isn't ALL of them but I see mishandling more often than I see what I would consider proper handling.

As a quick example I'll use Large Muskie and Northern Pike. I never see people do the right thing, they always just grab the fish by the gill plate and lift it out of the water. The plate gets stretched way out and I am sure most of these idiots hit the gills at some point. I could go on and on but it's a whole other topic.

WRONG!

Right or some variation of this.

I get so mad watching people hold fish by the gills. I understand holding like the guy above may remove some slime coat but it's better than the gills getting ripped up.

The best way is one of those nets with two long poles on each end so you can lift the fish with that, it's like a hammock. They also work well for getting Monster fish out of tanks.

really? ask Li what his intentions were when creating the site/name. theres a lot more to it than the size of your tank/fish. my planted 55g was more "monster" than most of the tanks here even though i only kept tetras. you wanna go monster, try a setup like that, or a reef tank.

point im trying to make is that anybody with $$ can buy a big tank and slap some big fish in there, feed and do water changes. does it automatically make you a monster fishkeeper? hell no

not all monsters = HUGE

Eg.. Bargarius Bargarius is a smaller cousin of Bargarius Yarellis and they look almost identical and only grows to a size of 8"

so a 8" catfish is not huge comparing to a Yarellis that have the potiential of growing to 6ft+

^^

I think some of us need to look at a Monster Fish Keepers book :uhoh:

To each his own. Ethics in fishkeeping is a fine line if there's any line at all. To say it's ok to keep a fish in a certain size box or ok to keep a fish that only gets to a certain size. I could if I was crazy argue that no fish should be kept in less than an extreme sized glass box.

Dogofwar: I think neither A or B fairly represents the site.

Monster could be huge .. but also .. Monster is Extreme.

Monster House Monster Garage. They took the motorcycles and the houses to the extreme. On Monster House they didnt make it HUGE they made it extreme. Thats what I think of this site.

Extreme. Whether it be JOHNPTC and his tank .. Or Midnight and his 200+ tank planted and wanting 100's of neons. Thats extreme too. Thats monster to me.

Monster does equal passion in this case. Haven't you read any of the articles in which he says he created the name "Monster" becuase of the passion and not the size of whatever?

see!!! even the new guys knows!!! :) i hate it when certain members think less of others or try to alienate certain fishkeepers because their tanks and/or fish arent "big enough". thats ridiculous. and a form of bigotry if you ask me

i still do not see passion as monster but if you say so.

every time i hear the word monster i think huge, maybe its just me?So monster trucks are really not big?j/k

There you go again....

You should know by now size ISN'T everything..... There's more to life then how big things are.

before I buy a monster (and know it will eventually grow out anything I have) I make sure I have somewhere that I can give or sell them to where they will be happy.
