I really like fish. Eating, keeping, fishing, breeding. It sucks that people sometimes suck. All we can do is make sure we are not the people that suck.

That's the point: what % of posters here can point to pictures of fully mature <pacus, RTCs, pimas, aros, other monster fish> in their care?

What if 90% of the puppies sold up dead after the first year after the sale?

I see lot's of "I just bought a pima" threads...but quite a bit fewer "My pima three years later" ones. Must just be that people are too busy doing hourly water changes for the 3' pima in a 125g to post pics. ;)

Most dogs reach adult size or close within a year. Most monster fish are not even close to adult size after 1 year growth. Dogs can have medical problems though causing them not to live for very long or needing to be put down even as a pup. There are alot of puppies that die within the first year due to bad treatment or medical issues.

Fish can run out of o2 if the power goes out. Fish can get eaten by other fish. Fish can die of internal parasites. How many RTC's, Pacu's, aro's, etc do I see well taken care of on this forum? Alot.

My only point is lets not turn this forum into that preachy over opinionated bullcrap where a few people think they need to constantly remind, preach, and ridicule those who are here to enjoy the hobby, be members and know full well what they're getting into. I've been to those preachy "You don't have a big enough tank.. Oh you're getting a bigger tank? Yeah right pfft you're a guy who doesn't have a clue and I'm gonna make sure everyone knows it" forums and well they suck. And most of those people to have nothing better to do than to try to control what other people are doing or buying or make fun of someone they feel is unworthy because they're not doing things the way that person wants. Let people have some freedom to make choices. They could screw up? Sure but it's a hobby. If you haven't screwed up then you're not being truthful. But better they could succeed.

I dont know any seasoned fishkeeper who hasn't killed a fish through own stupidity or uncontrollable circumstance. Anyone who hasn't either hasn't gotten to "that point" in the hobby or has been extremely lucky.

For some reason it always seems to be the hardcore cichlid guys that have a hard time not doing things by the book. For the record I really don't care where the 3' pima is more than I care about the where abouts of any other random fish. If it's still alive it's obviously getting food and the correct water. If it's not it either got euthanised or eaten. Which would have happened if the aquarist didn't buy it anyways since they're farm bred for food.

Oboy...This has been fun but folks, we are arguing in circles time and again, and everything has been said enough. Thanks for taking the time to express your views in a civil manner. I have to say this. This is one time a thread has ended without too much issues but there are things that have to come to an end.:)
