Why the name American Tiger?

What is it about the Silver Datnoid that makes it's other name American Tiger? Is it's range within the Americas?

silver was from.... like somewhere south of new guinea ( but NOT new guinea itself ) right?? maybe that country is ownd by US over there? ._.

Did a little research. Range seems to include parts of Australia, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and New Guinea.

Still don't understand why American Tiger. None of these places aren't under US jurisdiction and unless there's a population in Guam, it's still boggling why the name is what it is.

Theres no way it/or any other tigerfish are endemic to Australia.
