Most "Normal" Datnoids found in the South-East Asia have a very light brown to yellow base-color.
Hence, to differentiate this "White/Silver" Datnoid with a much lighter base color, the local might have started calling "American Tiger"

American Tiger has nothing to do with the Americas unless an American discovered it which is extremely unlikely. An American wouldnt discover a dat is south east Asia and name it after america.
This country is the largest importer of Dats in the world. It would make sense for them to relate the fishes name to the country that has the highest demand for them. Simple marketing.
But it is just a common name, which is all it is, a common name. Most arent even that accurate to begin with.
