Why did you chose to keep cichlids instead of other beautiful fishes?

I like cichlids because they are aggressive and they fight for their right to party.. Then the cool beauty in some to compliment that. Then the size of them. Though i can not say they are the most beautiful like salt water, but they are cool crazy little animals inside and out overall. I actually like Bettas more than any other fish but they are small.

If you have time, pls share your reason. if you have a different reason, and not the same as others please dont fight about it. thank you.
because everyone get to like things for their own reasons..

If they like the most aggressive cichlid, I completely understand why instead of get mad at them.. Cichlids are known for being aggressive duh. It's your hobby. Not mine. I dont go pulling out my hair like some ppl when a new hobbyist asks. :P

Because a life without an Oscar is not a life worth living.

el oh el
haha. Oscar was my first cichlid.

Have you kept other cichlids?

Tried a GT. It shrank.

Tried Convict. Got bored.

Have a good angelfish, short-bodied prartilapia polleni and hybrid/sparkling jurupari that I love. Looking forward to some sort of metallic green cichlid in the future...

For me it's the personality of cichlids...most are pretty game to eat out of your hand, they seem to "regard" you when you come in the room, beg for food, etc. It's fun to grow them up, watch their color change. You won't get the same personality from a bala shark or tiger barb.

Indeed...I have a good sized angel I got as a rescue I guess, was kept in like a 15hex it's whole life until the tank cracked and she was going to flush it. I almost didn't take it...but I did and I'm glad I did. I'd never had any interest in angelfish prior to this one, but he is a "good" fish with some personality.

Yeah, many angelfish are really stupid or violent. It's hard to find a mellow, interactive one.

cause you cant find them wild ( not talking about the none natives in fl or down south im talking about there natual habbitate ) in the wild in the us! and i LOVE my oscars! there just like my dog. always a pig and getting fat!

In addition to those mentioned before...

...Breeding behavior & parental care!

It's all about personality for me. I love that cichlids will recognize individual people. Also, I'm attracted to the coloration and large size of most cichlids.

The high level of aggression is actually one of my least favorite aspects. I wish I could keep a Midas, GT, JD, con, Nic, FM, all together in a reasonable size tank. That'll never happen unless I have a huuuuuuuge tank.
