In a Fish Tank
This is my first time posting a new thread by the ways (barley found out how!):nilly::newbie::nilly:

Anyways, I have a 100 gallon fish tank for about 2 months already and It still has tons of ammonia and it wont pass this part of the cycling stage. I only have a couple of feeders in there. The filtration consists of an overflow system that goes into a 30-40 gallon sump. The sump has a top layer sponge, tons of bioballs, and those little ceramic tubes for the biological part. So why wont it go to the next stage? :irked::irked::irked:

Also, just yesterday, I added gravel from my cycled 55 gallon tank which has an undergravel filter into the sump of my 100 gallon with a powerhead. Will this help at all? :(

Thanks and merry christmas!

change the water with 20% procent every day.
and clean your filtration system good ( not to good ).
use watertraet for aquariums .
and u schoud be good . keep me informed with pm and i help you on the way .( keep in check i live in europe so it can take some time to respond( a day or so ) )

greetings

What are you using to test your water. If I was you I would take the feeders out and do a fishless cycle using pure ammonia. Another thing that could really speed up the process is to take your filters from your 55 and wash then out in the 100 gallon and give them a good squeeze.

your ammonia may be too high once over 5 ppm your bacteria can start to die.

After two months it should have cycled, either the test kit is wrong, or something else weird is going on...

If the PH level is 7 or over then go and pay 20 bucks for a bottle of SAFE START made by tetra. And be done with it.

Low Ph numbers can inhibit biological bacteria growth. It will still cycle and function just fine with ultra low PH numbers, but everything will happen alot slower.

This is why I just spend the money and buy the Nutrafin Cycling solution which the process takes 3 days. I cycled my 225 in 3 days with brand new water and tested the waters paremeters on the 4th day and everything was fine. 5th day all my fish went in and all eating well and happy. Why wait 2 months? To save 30 bux? If u have money to buy fish and maintain them then I'm pretty sure u have the money to buy chemicals.

The cause could be the sponges or possibly if you have a Python...

If they are kitchen sponges, take them out and toss them in the trash. Kitchen sponges are loaded with anti-bacterial chemicals that will prevent a healthy bacterial colony. If you are using a Python for water changes, toss it on the lawn and let it freeze over. When it thaws next spring, run it over with a lawn mower.
