It's an acquired thing. I never used to like them. I was happy with red devils and convicts. Now that I've grown into the hobby I can see what people like them for. I'd say the main ones are Size, aggression, unique look, and personality.

People like fish nobody has, not a lot of people have beani because they can't keep them alive.

Yeah I heard they have bloating problems. Not for beginers.

So are these like shiny in person or what? How big do they max out in a 300g tank?

Have yet to see adults in person, but if they look as good as the fish in the pictures they must be amazing. I think they hit 18" in any size tank. && yeah, they do have bloat problems.

Here's my $.02.... Peer Pressure! In the last 1.5 years I've transitioned from keeping/breeding Frontosas to depleting my collection and just keeping CA's. I met Ruck Fules/Gani and had so much admiration for his vast knowledge and collection of various common/not so common CA/SA cichlids. Then I met Ewok/Tien and he was into CA's also.... we all eventually cross paths and kept in touch regarding group buys and share info about the hobby. Gani bought a Beani from Polomax/Gary and there it began. It was a quest to get the "rarer" cichlids in the hobby and to aquire a Beani was the goal (along with Istlanums). So in their attempts at saving money on shipping costs and to get quantity discounts they suckered me into these "Group Buys". I now own 6 Beani...... and a couple of hand fulls of Istlanums because of "Peer Pressure". I'm no trail blazer, just a follower....... but I've made two pretty good friends along the way (but my wife hates Ewok.... can't blame her).

assuming its because they're always selling fish to one another and encouraging each other to buy new things.

haha...
sean just assumes she hates me :ROFL::ROFL:

i'm actually a good influence and a strong proponent for moderation in consumption and a model for self control.

who has SIX beani anyways? :screwy::screwy:

i only have 4... :naughty::naughty:

They've become a status symbol, like big chains and rollin' on 22's. People want to own the biggest, the best, the rarest, and the epitome of that in Central and South American cichlids is now the beani.

I'm just hatin' as I don't own any. :( (I'll just wait for the F1 or F2 generation and pay $5 each. :D)
