If 2K is what you can afford, and what you're willing to pay for that aro, because you like it, then that 2K aro is not a waste of money. However, if you think you score a 2K aro that you think will grow into one as nice as a 20K aro, then it could be a waste of money. You can't get that answer from someone else. The answer lies in you.

us$2k is a lot of money no matter what country you are from

thats the Singapore price meaning a us$2k Asian aro is only a bit better than a $200 RTG yet its 10 more expensive and to get a top grade aro its 100 x more expensive than a RTG

why don't the farms up the standard they have had years of line breeding all of their aros should be of good grade if labelled as xback

or are export fish of lower grade than the ones shipped to Asia
 
Basically, whoever offers the most money, will get the best fish, its as simple as that. I can ensure there are many people over in asia that are waiting in line, willing to cough up 20k without thinking for a good specimen. The value of an arowana depends on the buyer itself, not the seller. If you want the aro, you're going to think its a good deal, if not you'll be staring at the guys who do buy it like as if they were a bunch of idiots. Do not expect a superior show fish if you're only willing to spend $2k, but also do not expect to have a gauranteed show fish even if you do cough up the $20k. This is how buying fish is, its all one big risk. The standards of farms has like NOTHING to do with this. They pump out healthy fish. How the fish turns out is a different story. You cannot control how something will turn out as it ages. If Leah Dizon had a daughter, does that gaurantee her a pretty face in the future? Definitely not. No one can tell, end of story.

Sure, US$2k is a lot of money, but US$2K won't buy you anything! :grinno: I don't know why you think the farm confuses buyer. As far as I know, farms only list the arowana with their name, not the market name. It's straight forward like Malaysian Gold, Redtail Golden, Super Red, Chili Red..., but not Xback or 24K. Let us see the certificate of your so-call 24K. You don't need to take the pix of the whole certificate, if you don't want to disclose the farm. Let's see if the farm or your LFS confused you

For lower-end aro, it will only state Malaysian Golden or super red.

For higher end it will state things like Golden Head, or Blood red, chilli red and so on.
 
So what you are saying is if you spend 2k the fish wont be any good thats all i want to know yes or no

you can go around the ? as much as you like

its very well saying a $2k aro is a gamble but like i said i have had lots of 2k aros and not one has turned out the way i wanted so i would say the chances are very very low even to say the 2k aro is a waste of money

you may as well stick with RTG then you know what you are getting

The question has been answered. $2K for a Malaysian Gold is on the lowest scale! It's not a waste of money, if that's what you can only afford, and you like the aro for what it is at the time of purchase. However, if you think, at the time of purchase, that the aro will turn out to be like one of the $20K show piece, then you are wasting your time and money to chase false hope! Of course, you can always stay with RTG, but a nice HBRTG is still a RTG. It won't be a Malaysian Gold. That's why there's people who buy a low end C-class Mercedes, instead of a top, fully-loaded Honda Accord ;)
