i feel its a bit of a con as most people dont want to keep the aro in a all white tank with white bottom

most of the time we buy aros from pictures

if the seller takes pictures of the aro in a non white tank how do we know the seller hasnt just put the aro in the normal tank to take the picture then put it back in the white tank to keep the shine level high

i would be intrested to see if someone put a silver aro in a white tank with white bottom would the silver turn snow

their is another thread here of a short body jar kept in a white tank and that also look like a snow jar

Yes this is another way to con people.

you can more or less know if the arowana was in WTT, the finnage all totally white, the scales all white with no frame for HB. So its quite difficult to con with this trick unless you;re dealing with people who duno arowana than that person can be con with such tricks.

some are worse they use cambodian green in WTT and sell as crossback, I've seen a WTT of cambodian green with frame forming, look exactly like XB. I'll upload the pic tonite from my home pc.

So its good to buy from reputable source where they will honestly sell you HB as HB with a cert to go along.

heres the cambodian green in WTT treatment, notice the frame forming, looks so XB to me

i guess its down to only buying from a trusted seller.

its the risk you take with everything you buy.

Maybe if Asian aros were legal in the US like they are here in the UK and Canada

you would also feel very disappointed after spending years and lots of money on Asian aros only for them to turn out not the way you were expecting

the UK and Canada have been importing captive bred aros for a number of years now

if the US was to lift the ban tomorrow were do you think they are going to off load the aros that are not up to scratch

I understand where you are coming from, but do not agree with you, Richard.

Sellers ( and owners alilke ) will try to show off their animals in the most favorable conditions. It is up to the buyer ( caveat emptor ) to ask for other settings if he wants to cross check.

People should only buy from people they trust. To buy solely based on a photo is an invitation to be ripped off, that experienced aro keepers, such as you, sg«hould not fall into.

It is all a question of trust, in the end.

A couple of years ago, as you know, I bought an aro from you, and drove 5000 kms to pick it up, based, solely, on trust.

I would not have given any value to a photo.....

Trust, only.

I would never purchase an aro based on photo alone. I have passed on several group buys here in Canada for this very reason. If I have to pay a few bucks more in order to see the fish in person before deciding to buy, I think it's money well spent.

you need to buy a adult fish that the only way you can guarantee the fish is what you want

for a $20k fish even a $10k you would expect it to be out of this world with colour and looks

problems with buying a adult aro

1. you don't know the aros history it may not be able to be housed with other fish
2. price of shipping
3. farms wont want to sell you a perfect fish if its that perfect they would rather keep it for breeding
5. price a high grade adult aro could cost you $50k to rich for my blood

problems buying small aros

1. they are a gamble you never know how good they will turn out no matter how good your eye is
2. don't ever thing your are getting a great deal because the aro is cheap farms never give anything away
3. gold aros can have to many tricks used to make them look better than they are
4. you can waste many years with the hunt for the perfect aro when you buy a small aro it can take 2 years + before you can see if the aro is what you want

i have been keeping Asian aros now for over 15 years now and am still looking for my ideal aro

im so pissed off with aros now my ST is my fav fish i never thought i would say that

If you're so worried, just buy local where you can look at the fish all you want until you're satisfied, OR you can buy from a reputable seller. I find no problems buying locally, none of the aros I have ever bought were in pure white tanks and they all turned out just the way they were supposed to.

looks like i will need to go to Singapore as we don't have shops or farms that have multi aros to look at

its all very well seeing all the sweet aro pictures on then net and saying wow wow as you never see that kind of aro for sale in your own country

although the red i have now is nice it has its faults

im at the stage now were im thinking do i keep it or state a new fish AGAIN

im going to stop moaning now :D

if you are talking about shine dropped after shifting into coloured tank then that fish in the first place is not fully crossed. It's only the skin which become translucent in the white tank and look as if it's fully crossed. But once placed in coloured tank the skin darken up thus look as if the shine dropped. but in the first place, there's no shine but the translucent looking skin.

Shine on the top should look exactly like those on the 3rd or 4th row of the fish. To play safe, compare the shine and scale texture on the top row and with the 3rd and 4th row. if they telly and look identical then it's shine, if the top is not showing the same kinda shine then it's just lightened skin not shine.

and if you want fully developed xb, be prepared to pay for premium. And after paying premium yet the fish turn out to be like what you said shine dropped then I will considered it's a con job provided the seller ensure you that the crossback is a fully developed one.

Nowadays, consumers are hard to please...:(
