Why do adult stripped rapheals tend to lose the their whites stripes to pink or even yellowish brown stripes?

IS there a way for them to keep their contrasting white stripes on black ?

This uglifing effect is whats keeping me from getting one.

It's just the way they are. They will lose the white stripes as they mature, and the color will darken as time goes on.

I think its individual. My large one still have his normal colouration, but I keep him in a really dark tank, but my two spotted on the other hand are different. One of them are whitish/grey with no spots.

so the white stripes can eventually turn the same color as the rest of the body?

wierd and wonderful jeuvenile coloration to bad it doesn't last.
