it doesnt take much to work out the profit margins hear how much do IT sell for over in the US ?

it must be $30 min and a shop that gets them will sell out fairly fast and can buy in more to sell if they need to

i may not be the shapest tool in the box like you say but i can tell you one thing ST were selling for $60 hear in the UK before the ban and their were lots about

you are talking about a $60,000 mark up from 1 brood before expences

even if the prices did drop to $20 per fish then you would still have a mark up of $20k

It would be a profitable venture for sure. Esp. in the beginning as your first successful larger brood will put alot of them out there. It really all depends on how well accepted you are to LFS' throughout the country and if they would be interested in stocking them. Without LFS in every major city your talking a way smaller group you're marketing to. Let's be honest anyone who's looking at breeding ST's has some $$ in their eyes as it requires a large initial investment, and alot of work.

IT pricing: I'm not sure about everywhere in the U.S. But as of a few months ago I could buy baby IT's at LFS prices in the Northeast U.S. for $20.00 and I know Infinate Aquatics had a sale on them for $5.00/ea. Granted at that price they sold out like hot cakes, but that's small profit margin I would think.

I agree lets stop the name calling. Convince the other person through words rather than names.

My favorite LFS has had the same ITs they ordered 15 months ago. The price is $14.99 and they are all now around 4-5" and they STILL are not selling. Talk about high demand. :screwy:

I would love a LFS owner to chime in about the ST demand.

In TO, little 2-3'' ITs are selling for 35-50$, and they are selling pretty well. Same here in Montreal...

When an LFS around here has an ST in stock, price goes for around 400-500$, and the fish is gone within the week.

JD, where are you from? Species demand are pretty relative to the location and the local kind of hobbyists.

one thing you are forgeting hear is if you were the 1st person in the world to breed ST then your market would be alot bigger than the US you would be selling world wide

you wouldnt even need to put alot of money into it if you got 2 x males and 2 x females to breed the price of the hormones is cheap so you would only need 2 tanks set up with 2 breeding pairs the more breeding pairs you have the more profit but even on a small scale with 2 pairs you are still looking big money for the 1st year

LongQ, I meant microliter and we will be doing it in-doors. My friend is doing the technical aspects where I will be handling that aquisition of the adult fish, setting up and maintaining the tanks and rearing the fry once/if the become free swimming.

1uL at what concentration? If by uL you mean ug, it's not enough.

Im not really sure, I am not handling that aspect of the project, though I have read over several papers and thought I read that some where.

This weekend I picked up two STs but they were a bit smaller then I was expecting so that hurt a bit.

I did pick up three of the most beautiful C. orinocensis I have ever seen and they should be easy enough to try first!

I am dong translate for JD on Jonhpcth Vid that 10 parts...In this Vids got many many information and lots of question being answer about breeding.

The person who's is breeding right now say there are NO way you can breed ST in tank. Doesn't matter how big is the tank are. You gotta let it be natural. Pond, lake, river...water lever, different food for feeding.

He also can and have show how to SEX ST rather it's male or female. It's does make a lot of sense.
It will take me a while to translate because Thai are my second language, Laos are my First and English are my Third.

Hey Sticky, you should post the translation in a thread once your done. There will many people interested in knowing what was being said in that video.

It also mention that if the female breed and lay eggs it have to has a good healthy male to Fertilize the eggs otherwise it will not work. That's why alot of people can not breed ST.
