What are the thoughts on this?

I’m looking to the future and thinking of replacing some dither tanks I have...

30” or 36” wide enough for most bass?

with Wolfmans story of his black arow, I’m thinking my 4’ wide tank will be for the Arow and what ever else, a pair of rays...

the two spaces I have one is 12’x30” avail

other is 10’ x 30”-36” or so... these wide tanks stick out a bit...

I’m thinking a 30” is enough for bass?

your thoughts?

Builder says 10’ acyrlic is expensive...

Could do -

2 - 6’x30”x30” - 280g’s

too small for bass - 2-4?

Just trying to get a usable size tank...

I’ve got a 48”x24”x30” over there now using as a QT - i know that would work in a pinch... for separating or QT for sick fish...

For Kelberi, 24” for anything but pinima azul and tems id say 36”, for the 3 others mentioned 48” ?

Bass are not agile or good turners so in a perfect world 1.5x the max length of the fish. You could get away with a few orinos/monos/intermedia with 30”

Me personally, long term I wouldn’t do anything under 3ft wide for any bass if it’s the forever tank for them.... just personal preference though

The widder the tank the better we are talking minimum here.If you want as happy as possible go as wide as you can lol.I would go 5ft wide but im not rich so its not possible lol.Just go with the biggest but with in budget and if you feel you cant upkeep with the width a bigger bass demands get a dmaller growing species
Hope it goes well!!

I suppose I have years, the biggest one in there is 12” - If I understand correctly growth slows here at some point,

just want a fail safe so I can safely keep the bass and arow - the arow currently 1

if I end up with a pair of desirable bass it would be nice to have a place for them...

probably will look more at 2 - 280g’s - 6’x30”x30”

what’s this 150g I have good for? I suppose QT / Hospital tank / bought it cause it fit on the wall... 48”x24”x30” - single specimen of something...

Then something more substantial for 1-2 years... ish costs money ?

thanks all!

I agree that wider the better. I have a 2ft wide with 2 kels. I can't get a larger tank due to weight. It's ok but sometimes they dart and hit the sides.
To me it's not just about the size of the fish it's their behavior also.
I think oscars can do much better in a "smaller" tank because of their behavior.
My bass do ok but if I had my druthers I would opt for 8' long by 3' wide. I also prefer tanks that are at least 30" tall. I observe that oscars and bass like to stay at the bottom and explore at times then go swim and explore the top. Much more interesting than just lengthwise traveling.

For sure! I’m into the 30” deep as well, thought was too deep for a while but... rather like it...

Probably gonna keep the 150g - sell off / store the 3 - 75’s I have set up...

Thinking long term, the Bass and Arowana will probably not live together...

I like the kel Oscar combo! I’ve been wanting an Oscar or two...

Thanks for comments all!

Id say you have about "year". They slow but still hit around 18-20" by the second year. With Orinos and Kels closer to 16. The bigger/medium basses usually hit closer to 14" in the first year from what Ive seen. But every inch past 12" they get signiiiificantly taller and wider as well which hogs up a ton of space.

I try to balance my suggested tank size replies between what Id love to see vs whats possible for most people. I highly recommend if you can going for 36" because bass act very differently when theyre just existing and when they have room to swim. As stated as big as possible is always best. I thinned my stock down to 4 bass but still give them 45sq ft of swimming space
