I bet it was a fenced in farm raised deer and nothing wore its hooves down. It's not even field dressed, so i doubt if it was wild.

I am associated with a farm for abused farm animals and i have seen quite a few goats and horses that have hooves like this... the farrier has to trim horses at least every eight weeks to keep the hooves from growing too long..especially becasue horses do not get the exercise they would get in the wild..where the natural terrain would trim it down.. so this is unbelievable..that a wild deer would grow such hooves.. it is almost like it were captured and kept in a small area then suddenly set free.. because no way in the wild with a deer on the move could this happen.. this one was put out of it's misery.. horrible! Rally..you have that correct...

It does happen in the wild! It is a genetic disease that their hooves grow faster than they can wear then down. That isn't a penned deer... I read the article on it a few months ago and this isn't the first one.

well you learn something every day.. but it is still hard to believe it would gain weight and thrive if it could hardly move around.. it must be painful regardless of the cause.. but i guess if it was in a lush area it is possible...
