so a guy came in to petco this weekend and told me that he had a 4 foot tall, cylender tank that was about 6 inches wide (he built it him self). first thing i thought was nothing could live in that, but he said he had it all set up (which could mean anything from it has rocks and water, to being acctuly all set up) and he really wanted to put fish in it that day, he wanted somthing with color and was looking at the african cichlids but i convinced him to get some tetras (i figured that out of what we had they would be the most likely to survive.)

so my question is, should i expect this guy back latter this week with a bag of dead fish?

or do you think those tetras have a chance?

How many did you sell to him? 6 inches wide and its a cylinder. That means he has .2 feet squared surface area for a 6 gallon tank if my calculations are correct.

So that would be a No, unless it was like 1 Black Skirt

Neons? They are sensative. Expect to see them sometime soon.

I wouldn't feel bad if the fish come back. You are not the one that insisted that they live in something so unnatural. It is going to be hard to get something to live in that long term. Fish are built to swim forward for what ever distance, not just six inches. And they don't want to just swim up and down. The only exception would be any of the fat goldfish or parrot fish. But parrot fish will get too big too fast.

Hmmm....now there is an idea. Maybe you should curse him with some parrot fish and when they grow too big he will have to get a real aquarium. Actually my crystal ball says that he will let them grow so big that they will get stuck. :irked:

3 six in neons in a 6 gallon tank? Sounds good.
