It seems to me almost like some of the wigglers are disappearing...or is this just because the bulk of their mass (egg sacks) is going away?

They could be being eaten OR they could be hiding, perhaps in the gravel

I noticed that the father AND mother now were nomming on the newborns, so I pulled the free swimmers out and put them in their own 5g with a sponge filter.

My questions now are what temperature to keep them at and how often to feed them? I picked up some Hikari First Bites and I'm feeding twice a day for now, and keeping the temperature at 82.

You are doing what should be. The food you got might have instructions on it. Follow those if they are there. The temp is fine, whatever you normally keep the fish in.

Thanks for all of the help!

There were no feeding instructions on the packet, so I'm just gonna stick with 2-3xday and hope that does it.

I feed my fry between 4~6 times per day... not very much at a time... as they grow I feed more at a time and less times per day...

I'd love to clean the floor of the tank right now...does anyone know the best way to clean a fry tank without sucking up the fry?

Since it's a small tank I'd use some large air line or something similar. And then be carefull. The fry should try to swim away but sometimes curiosity get the better of them or you just dont see where they're hiding. I've accidentally decimated groups of fry before cause I didn't see them and sucked them up and tossed the water.

I sure don't, my fry where only maybe 1" above the ground and there was no way to siphon other than the python and it sucked! Uneaten/fuzzy food calls for waterchanges and my fishes growth rate depended on it. I'm left with 4/50 fry now. Only thing I can suggest is have your fry tanks up in the air so you can siphon a little bit at a time.

Oh man, that's rough! Should I do any more rigorous sort of water change schedule in that case?
