do you think youd be worrying about animal rights if you didnt have food on your plate or a place to sleep?

A few years from now it will have well taken the US's top economical status there is no doubt of that! The rate at which their country's economy is growing is simply PHENOMENAL... and if you simply look at Walmart, Dolorama, Kmart, and other huge corps like that, you will notice that China has already taken up a huge hold of north American markets! Heck, when you make any business plan here in Canada you now need to have an elaborate strategy for facing the upcoming Chinese market which offers such low prices that it becomes nearly impossible for many a company to compete with them... and that in our own country!
Its not for nothing that every one shops at Walmart and such, the cheap labour in China (if not to say slavery) allows them to sell items 10x less than we price, thus even our huge coorporates buy masses from them so that they can afford cheap prices. In like 3 years, China has doubled every part of its economy!!!

yeah - thats what i was trying to say!Hawkfish3.0;1979328;1979328 said:A few years from now, I think not. China already has economic superiority over the US. You just can't compete with 7 billion Chinese. The only reason the Chinese keep us involved, is because of our buying power. We are a society of consumers, the Chinese realize the potential, and exploit it. China is a highly developed country for certain. They just have very different views on what is, and is not food. It's like the guy in the clip (the one who was interviewed) mentioned: he's so poor, why would he worry about the avian flu? With so many mouths to feed, everything becomes food.
This topic evokes such an emotional response from Westerners like us, because we have been taught, through our upbringing, that these animals are our companions, not our food. I don't like seeing it any more than anyone else, but I can be rational enough to understand that many Asian cultures view these animals much the same as we view domesticated cattle.
