Wild aro feeding pics or videos?

Thats a good idea though. You'd need a pretty tall ceiling and such, I would also put something to keep the water from getting all over after the aro comes back down, kind of like those tubs that are constantly fill with water.

I think someone should send this idea to a zoo, I'm sure they would be able to replicate it correctly.

But if I used those plans I would weave ferns threw the chainlink to make it look a little cooler.
 
Arowanas are absolutely amazing. I have seen a vid of of a big one grabbing a bird right out of the air after the bird dove for a fish.
 
Someday Im going to build a concrete pond for 6 aro's and make it so that from underwater it looks like a river bank with overhang and put a cover around it so the aro's can jump for crickets and stuff.

But thats going to be a long time until then. Lol

its always nice to dream.

i used plexiglass and built a extension above the opening of my 150gal glass tank. it went up 2ft and was the width and length of the tank. i had brances n leaves and threw krickets on them. my archer fish and arowana would jus jump and spit all day long eating all that crap. got old fast tho as having an arowana jumping all the time isn't what you really want. its a bad habbit for them.

i eventually took it down as i didnt want the aro to get used to it.
 
wud be really sick to see an aro do it on captivity,
but yeah, like ethnics said, i dont think ud like ur big arowana jumping off everytime.
 
Thanks for all the info guys, and the pics wizzin. So it looks like no one on mfk really has that setup so i have to do it someday then. To bad i jsut rebuild my setup. But my plan is: I haev my 180 glass which is 7' long and 2' wide and deep. There is no center glass piece, just two 2" thick metal bracers coated in plastic (would have to more support to outside of tank or cover in a manner where the fish can't get hurt hitting it). I figure a 7' by 2' opening aboove the tank would be perfect sized area for jumpers (not large aros though). Shorten the stand to allow more space above, say about 4-6 feet of space above. Id start with small aros and make sure its high enough space above the tank that i can slowly move the branches the feed up higher and higher as they grow. Currently my tank is "island" style setup so there is no back, mean i would have to acrlyic or plexi glass around all four side above the tank. The top might not have to be clear if i put the lighting somewhere else. Id want atleast one side (the viewing side) a solid piece so its a good clean view of everthing. And either the sides or other long end, in 3 or 4 pieces so i can open a small area to work in the tank. If the tank is against the wall id prob go with a cheaper backing and sides and a solid front window on the top. Something very soft or smooth for the back and side, and maybe even setup the back with plants, moss, or something that will grow up the entire back wall. Even let some green anols or something live there (cheap so wont be bad if aros eat them). Id use fake plants but over time try to grow some real ones to fit however i plan to mount the branches. In the long run id want real plants that would cover most of the top of the tank without to many poles, wires, or any suppot holding them up. After im sure that there are no leaks from splashing water at any portion of the upper section above the tank, id have to move all my drains and return pipe. There is 3 down the middle of the tank, id have to make them L real low in my tank and have them come up the sides. Maybe even have fake or real plants at certain spots where the drains and returns come closer to the cerface. With all the plants, leaves, and splashing of the water on everything (maybe even lil dirt) id have to upgrade the filter and make sure there is a good current running. For the aros to swim and use and also to clean the tank. Maybe even a surface skimmer somewhere. And upgrade to a large uv sterilizer if needed. Second to last step would be making sure there isn't to many or any places where an aro out of water would get stuck or hurt in any way. Then finding the perfect aros would be nice. Small ones really, maybe just looking for the jumpy ones from peopel or fish stores. Just have them open the lid and first one to jump out is the one i take. If small and enough plants and stuff in the aquarium as well above (and i have the moeny) id try to mix in all the aros small and see if any will live togheter in the long rung. Mostly silvers, few jardini's, african, a black or two, a leichardti or two, an asian??, plus tankmates. Them feed them crickets, mealworms, moths (seen mine eat some wilds ones, but they only jumped out of the water 3-4") worms, lizards, etc etc. hopefully they will all learn to jump for food (i would feed them in the water, coudln't just tourte them all) and i can move it up a half foot at a time till its the maxium the tank can go or they can leap (and before they otugrow it all). Those are my plans, and since no one has yet, i guess i have to do it. When i save like a $1,000 to blow in a week. But if it worked out, some day i would up grade to a pond sides area with huge viewing window (like at zoo or aquarium) not to huge. And then have whole enviorment setup, lizards living here, different fish ther, turles, maybe water dragons even a bird or two. And also try to have a portion of the food supply grow in or next to the tank. Have convicts breeding in hidden places, mealworms could breed right next to the tank and just have it so worms can climb out at random. Same with moths have them breed and be able to fly out at random, silk worms, and anything i could get get to breed directly in or connect to the setup. And it would have to have as many aros as possible. Silvers and anything. I want to see like 6 or 7, 2' aros leaping in the air for just one cricket. I know somewhere in the world, prob asian, someone has this setup in the backyard or business. Huge pond with no sides. Some aro lover has to by now... thanks for your time and interest
