Would have been interesting to see if the metal detector was sensitive enough for small hooks and not a huge hunk of metal. But would make me feel better buying if someone checked even that much. Wonder if any vendors of wild fish check like this? Or if the exporter say they do

I would be surprised if any vendors or exporting facilities check for hooks, especially here in the states. These guys are probably European importer/breeding facility checking before sticking them in quarantine tanks after their arrival.
Seen years ago a breeding facility in Europe that was x-raying the potential for hooks in a stingray.
