wild caught asian arowana...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah green, red and gold all exist in the wild. i would think the colors for red and gold would be duller than the captive bred ones nowadays. haven't seen pics of WC red/gold, but haven't really looked around for pics either.

and there are gold originated from malaysia (the xback nowadays) and gold originated from indonesia (RTG). and these two were separated into two different species in a study published in 2003 i think.

It's illegal to collect wild asian arowanas. The trade of asian arowanas is highly regulated, that's why they have a tagging chip surgically inserted into the animal to ensure that they are captive bred from a certified fish farm rather than the wild.

There are natural color variations of the asian arowana (such as red and gold) but the green is the most wild spread of all. of course, the vibrant colors and some of the sub variants (i.e. super red, blood red) is the results of selective breeding.

It's illegal to catch wild aros and sell them outside your country, depending on what country you live in. In Cambodia for example, you can actually catch wild aros and keep or eat them if you want, but you can't ship them to another country. You'd be surprised how many countries DON'T have no catch laws for aros. Remember, CITES is only the regulating body for international trade. They have no local jurisdiction in matters within one country or with what a local person does locally with the fish.

EDIT> I take that back, apparently in Cambodia they do catch them and export them.

The avatar is a 3d image I made. It's actually part of an animation. ;) Thanks.

here's 2 more renders. I never got a chance to finish the maps on them, so they're a little rough. It was a test that I never went any further with.
