I have seen this done once on the web. The tank is a 180 gallon. Is it worth it to give this a shot or should I go with something like a few Peacock Bass?

I have a friend that had his Stingray eat his discus, but I think that is probably the exception.

The wild caught one's that I would buy would be at least 5-6". My Stingray's wouldn't touch them but would the Discus get scared? I have heard that wild caught one's are hardier and stronger.

as long as there isnt a huge size difference your good to go

Just my opinion, but I think it's a stupid idea. A lot of younger fish keepers today want to keep incompatible species together, just because they think it would look cool, or "I don't have room for another tank", or "I can't afford another tank". It's irresponsible fish keeping to try to keep fish together without consideration for the individual species needs, especially today with all the information available. Discus will live for years in a stress free environment, but they won't last a year or two in these tanks with wild combinations. Nothing wrong with keeping rays, pb, aros, snakeheads, whatever. It's just discus don't make good tank mates for any of them.

I kept discus with rays for two years and only separated them because I changed my setup. I had no adverse effects and IMO, it was a decent combination. Was even thinking about doing it again.

I dont know about wilds but I have 9 discus with 2 motoros in my 180 gallon, and I have seen a few others do it as well. I have heard of the occasional stingray having a discus dinner, but I see it this way. If you get the discus while the motoro is small 7-8" the discus will be too big of a treat for them and they wont be interested, the discus will grow along with the stingray and you SHOULDNT have problems, although it CAN always happen. I doubt my stingrays could munch down 9 discus in a night so if they ever got a discus treat I would notice and be able to move the discus to another tank, although I dont see it happening.
Im also not one who thinks that stingrays stress discus out. They live in very very similar water conditions, and I know for a fact the rays dont intimidate or scare the discus because when food falls in the tank onto the discs of my rays, the discus eat it right off the rays. The rays dont mind the discus and the discus dont mind the rays.

If you look in the stingray section one member wrote a thread about the K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid) method about keeping rays. I think this is true for rays, true for discus, and true for the entire hobby. If they work they work, if they don't they dont, don't worry about it too much.

3 is a pretty small number to have in such a big tank. I started with three, but added another six not but two weeks later. whether you want all the same or different is up to your personal taste ( I believe, unless there is something different with wilds, but I dont think there is)
