And if Mr. Rapps was told it was F1 and it was actually F10? That's my point. There is no certification or proof. Man, even if you personally caught a couple of fish yourself, from a lake in the congo, how are you going to prove it? Plane ticket, boarding docs, cargo manifest, yes, but that's like 1 out of a 1000 situations.
It's all word of mouth and trust, but how do you know about the person before the person you trust?
Someone start a fishfax site!!

he collects and breeds the fish himself- thats the proof

Well I'm glad you have a trusted source. That still doesn't change facts. There is NO way to verify. I suppose if I was in the market for something rare or an absolute F0 or F1, I would find a trusted source as well, maybe even Jeff, but the more ads I read in here, craigslist, or any other site/store, the more I question the validity of generations away from wild caught.

this kind of therory apply's to all life and is why many of us go about our everyday lives the same as always instead of liveing in a box. when you order food- do you know the chef not gonna spit in it? NO- but does that stop people from eating out- NO. do you know the bank isn't going to get robbed tommorow when you put money in it today- NO, does that stop you - NO. the same with the stock markets. Jeff is a professional and makes money for his service, to do anything else would be stupid. oh well get over it.

Would the Oscars and other established aquarium releases caught from Florida's waterways be considered "wild caught"?

no they are feral, an introduced species that is being natively caught.

It's all a matter of trust like said. But I'm almost 99% sure all off Jeff's fish aren't bred on site. Some of the new world stuff is(alot is) and he gets wild collections but I think he also gets in fish from breeders he knows.

F0, F1, etc it's more bragging rights than anything but with most fish put a F0 next to a farm/inbred F3+ esp. once in juvi form you can see a difference. Frontosa, Cichla, etc will let you see this.

Other thing is just because you see alot of F0 - F1 doesn't mean that they're all not true. In the aquarium trade/fish sites most hobbiest's want the best of the best if they're going through the trouble online.

When I order food, I know the restaurant is mandated and controlled by the food board.
When I put money into my bank, I know it is safe as they are Federally insured.
Stock markets contain inherent risk. It's a stated risk. It's a known factor. YOU make the decision to "play" the market.
...... get over what? You seem to be defending Jeff like I'm attacking him. I did nothing of the sort. Maybe you should relax a little, my friend.
I just bought a wild caught colony. I did my research and know where they are coming from. I made sure I had proof for when/if I decide to sell.

What a relevant older thread.

I think its just a trust factor. Some guys get you the real deal good's b/c their entire reputation depends on it. You can bet when Discus Hans says he's got F0 Heckle's in or Rapp's says he has F0 Geo's that they are indeed genuine wild fish. Guys like these rep depends on it and thats why you pay that little extra coin to get fish from a reputable dealer. However I would be wary of aquabider "Br00talsk8terguy94"(totaly made up) selling F0 SA/CA's.
