How would you guys feel about using wild caught bluegill / sunfish as feeders for cichla? I can literally get thousands of them in the spring and summer around here with very little effort. Only concern is obviously introduction of parasites and disease. Quarantine in warm salted tank maybe? What you guys think? I want to start using high quality live but having a hard time finding anything other than goldfish, rosies, and occasional live bearers.

If quarantined right there shouldn't be a problem..

Spines aren't a concern? I'm guessing not since they take them down in the wild, and their mouths are pretty large.
I just know that with juvenile convicts you don't want their spine fins too developed/large, or it could pose a risk to the fish you are feeding them to, thus my basis for that.

i'm not sure they're the best choice for feeders, but if done properly, you should be fine
