Wild caught motoro

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My first Ray was a wc motoro , let him order u one in and make sure he is going to get it eating before u take it , pups are hard work in general wc or not it's up to u but if ur an experience fish keeper jumping to Ray's shouldn't b a bad or hard experience wc or tank bred they only difference with the 2 is a breeder will make sure the pups eating before sale wc some hasn't made that effort from birth

Make sure it isn't too skinny and its dewormed before you buy it. Wc rays are a bit more difficult, but motoro are pretty easy going once they start eating.

go for it, that's a super inexpensive motoro, so if the money isn't a big deal to you and you can house the fish, go for it. as mentioned above make sure to treat for parasites with prazipro and use worms to get it eating. I have zero experience with rays too but you have to dive in some time right?

Messages the guy and he said the rays have been treated for parasites and are feeding before he sells them so all sounds good! Is it best to treat again when I get it just to be safe or just feed and look for signs of parasites?

I'd treat again. not that I don't trust people but...lol

I would definitely treat again. What's a $5 tube of medicine compared to an expensive fish?

True! Will have to find an alternative to prazi because it doesn't seem to be available in the uk from what I can see.

Miles Miles said something that made sense to me.
Get the Ray and get him settled in before treatment. If he dosnt eat for more then a week or two treat him. If he starts eating get him eating and settled in and monitor his atool and growth. If he's eating and not growing with irregular stool you know he has parasites. Wondering if others on here take this approach also. I'm always a fan of avoiding meds if I can and if I give meds I try my best to find out what the Illness is so you can give proper meds.

Meds stress fish , Dosnt make sense to add stress to a fish when already stressed unless it is a must

this is a valid point for sure, personally i see a lot of benefit to treating anyway. say the fish has parasites but they are controlled in it's system and doesn't show signs. then later on something happens, fish gets stressed and boom more parasites taking advantage. and say its in with other fish there is also the possibility of it passing its parasites on to a less healthy host who they might affect worse also. just my thoughts on it.

Prazi as soon as you get him and make sure you see him eating. Look for bones near the tail. That means it's super skinny and might die on you. Improper shipping can have ammonia issues that shut down the rays organs and obviously slowly kill the ray. 100 pounds isn't to bad of a price. Worth the risk in my opinion. What size tank do you have? Oh and keep the lights off
