A little tank experience in the gene pool doesn't hurt.

This is absolutely correct. Its the same as this;

Buying a discus that lived in 6.8 water all its life, then moving it to a 7.8 water. Not good. Although if a bunch of fry were raised from birth in 7.8 water, they'd fare off much better.

I love it when threads tun into something completely different :P thanks for the replies all. I wouldn't mind f1 with wild caught parents, but I have no idea where to get those, or even if I have ever seen them labeled that way...it wont be for a little while....but if anyone knows of where to get them, let me know. As for the clean tank, yeah, I have learned all that now. it was a long time ago that U had them before. I was like 13 and thought a 55 gallon tank was HUGE. so naive :)

For what it's worth, Jeff Rapps gets wild Oscars from Peru often. I have had a few of these myself in the past. Check out his Tangled Up In Cichlids website.

well Oscars are very very hardy i would say they developed hith mostly because of stress i had one in terrible and i mean terrible water quality the worst i had ever seen because i was not able to take care of the tank properly and he was fine for months he developed it when i moved him now i moved him from a 38 gallon to a 135 with perfect water he was under a lot of stress from the move for a good week or 2 and thats when the hith got realllly bad
