Nice! Lol.. So Houston Texas has wild texas? Or were they introduce to the area? From what I've heard.. They originate from the rio grande area. How did you catch him? And how long has he been in your tank? Does he accept cichlid pellets? Hahaa.. Sorry for the questions. I'm just really facinated, that's all. Nice fish BTW...

Caught 2 of them in Spring creek in Spring Texas.
Both eat pellets ...caught them with a casting net.
They have been moving all over Texas spreading north and east.
Took them about a week to start eating pellets.
When i caught them the larger one was about 2" and the other was just like a little fry.
Now he is close to 5" and the small one about 1.5"

Wow!! Very interesting information.. Thanks! Please update them if possible, Lol.. I'd like to see their growth progression..

The bigger one seems to have grown fairly quickly and is now at 5"
The little one is so small eats like a pig but doesnt seem to ever grow.
Im going to collect more this spring.
The ones available at the pet stores the last few years are terrible and so washed out compared to these guys.
Ill have to get some good pics of him becouse his color is amazing.

My friend live there but i havent tried to collect there.
However they are in the Buffulo bayou by rte. 6.
Let me do some looking and ill post it in here.
You would be surprised at where these things are.
They seem to be everwhere.
