I was using a cast net to catch them, Another person that was out there told me he was catching them on bread with a small hook on a cork.

cast net doesn't work well with bigger fish, they can see it coming lol.

i'm going to try the worm/cork combo soon, i saw a pretty big texas (7-8 inches) last time i went, wasn't able to catch him though.
 
It is hypothesized that these "native" Texas blues are hybrids of carpintis & cyanoguttatus; at least that is what one researcher who studied them has offered up, based upon their excellent dual temperature and salinity hardiness. Don't be too sure that they are pure. Regardless, they are fun and unique to catch.

I, too, have found bread works best. It is a lot cheaper than live shrimp!
