do you think a wild caught fish can grow faster/bigger than the captive breed fish?
I'm talking about all type of fish..

It depends on the living conditions in the wild vs the care it receives in captivity I would say. A tank raised specimen can grow quite fast if provided frequent water changes and an adequate diet IME. I've been curious for a long time about the effects of other factors on the development of young fish. I don't doubt that things such as light cycles, water current, temperature, etc play a role as well. Good question.

So only captive bred or wild caught, assuming they are cared for in the exact same conditions.

I'm going to need to see some solid research before I jump to any conclusions. However, I'm aware that many wild caught fish grow larger than their captive bred brethren, such as arowanas and bgks. Vice versa works too.

thanks for the reply,
the thing to concern here is the genetic factor of the fish, I though that the one that is captive breed has been through several generations of breeding, therefor their growth may not reach the maximum size. But that just what I think.
I do realize that the fish we keep in the tank may not grow that big compare to those in the wild. Does it also mean that if we release the fish in the wild, then they can grow much bigger??
more opinions pls
cheers

sure thing I wouldn't do that, I'm just saying ' IF ' the captive breed fish can grow bigger when you put them back into their natural habitat. But of course you dont hv to do it.

Can I ask why you say this?

I captive fish can get diseases that a not from the area and once u release it back to the wild it can destroy the habitat. Now that i would assume is if u have other store bought/different pond, lake, river, stream caught fish. I would say if its the only fish in the tank that the chances of something being tranmitted back to the environment are low but still its not the best choice for the habitat or fish.

If kept in optimum conditions, and almost nobody here can provide that, a captive fish will outgrow a wild fish, in the wild fish face predation and may go for times without food. A captive fish can be kept without predators and will always have food.

Now was your question, will a wild caught fish in captivity outgrow a captive bred fish in captivity?

That is a different question.
