That isn't even a comparison since the person who posted that is obviously bias towards captive breds...

How do you figure?

Sorry, I love to read all your posts.

Its just that I thought it was the best answer because it was the most NONbiased answer.

And Spiritofthesoul, I am not biased, I so happened to have found this little article and thought it was interesting. Ive kept WC, F1, and LFS, even hybrids and lovem all.

I just got F1 Neolamprologus multifasciatus and they were the same price as anywhere else, got them for $7.00 a piece. There are a couple that are skittish but it's a new tank to them.

LOL, nonbiased because it was just a simple opinion of "I buy what I like" from someone? I thought I gave pretty good arguments for both sides, it's a complex issue and just buying whatever you like, especially when you're planning on breeding, is a little silly IMO without seriously considering both sides and your ultimate goals.

Unfortunately some pet store fish are wild but they are just thrown in tanks!!

There are always going to be pros and cons to WC/F1/LFS fish.. we could probably be here all day listing them..

But it's just like buying a dog.. a shelter dog can be just as good as a proven pure bred.

Yes, I do plan on breeding some of my fish, and it's very possible that a few of them are from a LFS (as they were bought/given, so I don't know exactly where they came from) but they are very nice specimens, and not just any old fish.

In all comparison, more people keep LFS fish simply because they are cheaper.

Yeah but shelter dogs generally aren't used for breeding programs... It's the same with dogs, you try to put the best genes forward for the next generation, although you don't usually have fish pedigrees... I'm not saying there are no good fish from a LFS, I'm just pointing out it should be more complicated than just picking something you like if you're not just keeping the fish as a pet.

I think the many generations of inbreeding can weaken domestics.

That is why fish should come from different sources. However I think most fish farms have multiple breeding pairs. I do worry about some breeders.
