Wild caughts vs Captive breeds

If you are not trying to breed, captive bred fish are probably better.
More adapted to aquarium life, and many times more owner responsive.
Breeding may be another matter, if you want to be sure you are getting a pure line.
And in the case of endangered fish, sometimes captive breeding of C.A.R.E.S fish may be the only hope of maintaining, and preventing extinction of species from places like Madagascar or Lake Barumbi mbo where introductions of exotic species, environmental degradation, and overfishing for a starving population, are decimating and endangering wild, and endemic fish populations.

. In many cases it creates an industry and source of income for the locals, who otherwise might resort to slash-and-burn farming or other more harmful methods of making money. And there are numerous cases where the aquarium hobby is the sole reason a species hasn't become extinct.

I disagree, you go into the small local villages where the fish are actually collected and NO ONE there will know there is even a commerce for these fish..

I buy WC fish because after you start breeding CB fish a lot their genes start to wear down and you can get some really messed up fish. I don't completely buy WC fish but when I have a choice I usually take the WC fish because the genes are usually pretty good. A lot of the genes being messed up is because the people breeding them only care about the money. I'm not talking about the hobbyist breeding i'm talking about the mass breeding farms in Asia. And with all the F1 or F2 stuff it's because it shows that those particular fish aren't way down the line and still have good genes from the WC parents. Usually when a fish is F1 or F2 though they are bred by a hobbyist or someone who cares about the fish and not just the money.

Wc fish will die much faster than c.p or t.r ..I see it all the time at my job

I don't think thats for all WC fish though

With proper diet and husbandry I don't see the difference.

Generally speaking, wc are more fragile, but they don't die faster. They simply have more precise requirements needed and if met can live just as long as any tb.

An example of what I'm talking about for the gene part is polypterus endlicheri. When you get WC's they almost never have bad genes and when they do it's usually because of them not being cared for correctly. However now a lot of the CB's are starting to get messed up. Especially with these new SB variations like this Endlicheri Example.png

Yea your rite but the one I see the most are the ones in saltwater

oh ok lol yea i can understand that. I was talking about. FW though, however i can see SW WC's being a little more fragile that CB's.

I think if you're willing to pay the money for a wc fish then you're prolly going to do a good job taking care of it. I personally have only bought tank raised fish. Only reason I would buy wc is if I really wanted a particular fish and it was only available if it was wc. But most fish readily breed in captivity so it's not too often that that happens.
