So do you guys ever go catch minnows to use as feeders? Or is this a bad idea? I just caught about 300 bluntnose minnows and im thinking about breeding/ selling them as i dont have a large predator fish to devour them.

Sounds fun, any advice on why this may be a good or bad move? Any insight on breeding minnows? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Im not sure if its legal to take that many minnows, Isn’t the limit in most states like 30 a day? (unless you caught the minnows over a period of like a month).

They usually carry parasites just like most store bought feeders.

If u can get the parasites outta them go for it!

after electricity, food, meds and time those 300 (as long as none of the die) fish (12 for $1 around here) should only cost you about $60-$80...

Well around here at lake murray the largest lake near my hometown they have a few baitstores that charge about 6$ a dozen 2 inch long minnows. So they arent too cheap around here.

And about the legal issues.. Im an idiot for not researching the laws. wasnt planning on catching like 300 minnows.

Are all Natural fish caught in the wild assumed to be full of parasites and diseases? They are quite healthy(it seems). Caught in a large flooded river. They started eating for me after 12 hours or as soon as i attempted to feed. I would expect thats a good sign they are healthy but im sure theres more to it.

Oh and i dont see these minnows costing that much to maintain.. 60 - 80 dollars annually...maybe...

More like 50.

HIGHLY not recommended unless you manage to breed it and separate the frys and raise the frys healthily. Those wild ones can be exposed to all sorts of diseases and chemicals.

I feed my fish top smelt caught in my backayard. they are alot better then regular feeder fish. its how i make my fish grow so fast
