Hey MFK, my 6-7" pair of wild festae seem to have an internal parasite, im not really sure where they got it as none of the other fish in the tank have the issue, and i HAVE seen them eat before? strange... i feed them(mostly offer because i never see them eat) mostly 2 different kinds of hikari pellets as well as NLS, occasional frozen krill and brine shrimp. my water parameters are fine, with <10ppm of nitrates, temperature is right at 80F. I have tried a few things, i got Jungle Labs parasite clear tablets, and followed the directions...i gave them two doses of this with not much improvement. it has been a week since treatment now.

I decided to try Kent Marine Garlic Extreme and soak their pellets in it. Followed the directions on that and they still wont eat them. i did however try frozen brine shrimp with the Garlic Extreme and they DID eat a very FEW amount of the teeny tiny brine shrimps... their bellys are sunken in now at this point and im still seeing small amounts of white stringy poop.

anyone have any advice on this? its TWO fish in a community setup, that wont eat and have stringy poop. they look miserable too :( altho they are not being picked on at all, they still have their attitudes

i had this prob with my festae as well and my buddy just went through it last month ...your best bet would be to use the jungle parasite clear , with epson salt...epson salt is a natural laxitiv to help pass the parasite... it worked for me and my buddy...and its less stress on the fish

also i have noticed if u feed festae's to much protien they also can get bloat or constipation that also seems to look symptoms of internal parasites...so the epson salt would also help with that as well

I did use jungle parasite clear and didn't see any results. I also think its not constipation due to their stomachs being sunken in...when you use epsom salts how do I use this? I see Neil's post on giving it orally but the fish are not eating...AND theyre in a community setup. Would the epsom salt effect any of the healthy tank mates? It's a 265g I can't really catch the fish every day and squirt solution in their mouth. If they are eating tiny brine shrimp could I try epsom salt in thawed cubes of that?

i used epson salt to iduce apetite, and even mixed it with thier food mix the epson salt in water tik it is dissolved and drip it on the pellets.. there is a formula but it just used a teaspoon in a 8 ounce glass .. and i treated the tank with jungle 3 times waiting 48 hours in between and a water change before each treatment.. then went 3 days with the metro.. all fish are health and growing like monsters again

no the salt will not effect any of the other fish i did 1 tbs per 10 gal.

mix a small amount of espon salt with tank water ,and thaw the brine shrimp in a small amount of the mixed water.. once it is all dissolved stir it just a little and freeze it .. then drop the cube in the tank and let them peck at it.. doing that added with the other treatments cured my fish

To get them to eat the food though is the hard part. When they were eating the brine shrimp literally they ate like 10 each...brine shrimp are tiny specs...would any of the meds even get on the shrimp? What would be my best coarse of action here...?

add 1 tbs of epson salt per 10 gal of water.. the epson salt will improve apitite, and mix brine shrimp with pre miexed epson salt water.. they will start eating again.. i mixed metro with my food also. i think metro is what got rid of my internal parasites.. i am no expert by any means. i am sharing what worked for me.. other people have had success with other treatments. some think just epson salt .. i used a little of all to cure my issue

No, it would not. Your other fish will simply excrete any excess magnesium. But for magnesium sulphate (epsom salt) to be most effective it has to be used in the manner described in the link above.
