Wild Jack dempsey

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm not him and can't read his mind....but I think his point is that they're NOT one of the fancy variants of JDs that are so common now. Just regular ("wild-type") JDs.

At least that's how I read it :)

Now if he said that they were wild and made up a collection point, that might arrouse some skepticism!

Matt

I know he's not but if they aren't wild why even put it in the ad

I see what you mean. It's possible that is what he ment by wild type. I sent him a email and asked. Just waiting on a response.

Your pic looks very similar to young ones I saw in the cenotes of Riviera Maya.
The ones I saw (young and old)were constantly grazing on algae that grew very lush in sun drenched areas (some more than a few inches long), seemed to be the major part on their diet.
The water was also fairly brackish.
I will definitely pick up that Nat Geo

I bought a group of 5 wild dempseys from Rapps when he brought them in. Unfortunately I only have one left. She's doing well but growing extremely slowly. I don't have any updated pictures of her but here is an older one.

It's good to see at least one.

I picked up four of Rapps' wild-caught 'Cenote Cristalino' JDs back in September 2012. The were about 1/2-3/4" (closer to 1/2) at the time. Now, after almost a year, I have two left (one disappeared, and one was involved in an impeller incident). Of the two that remain, neither is more than 1.5" TL, although both look fine and feed well. I'm surprised by how slow they've been growing (first in a 30 gallon, and now in a 210 gallon), and hope they start to put on some size soon. Here are pics. The first pic is when I first bought them. The others were taken in the last month or so. Two fish are shown.
