I found this old video from when I was younger with a heap of wil Jack I pulled from the river across from me. Thought for those of you who have kept Jacks, fished for them or just know of them might get a kick. Was some decent sizes.

Nah mate they're not a type of cichlid, they're an Australian native type of Snapper. Scientific names Lutjanus Argentimaculatus. Awesome fish to catch and too keep.

Hell yeah, it's intense. I have to usually run atleast a 20 pound mainline with a 50 pound leader or a trace. They just bolt straight into their snags. And they don't give up easily, i've had so many right at the bank after a 10 minute fight then just taking another 50 metres of line in easily 10 seconds flat. I have hooked some MONSTERS that I haven't ever been able to get in. And I don't think anyone will without game gear, and even then i've seen this fish get its bottom jaw ripped off from the hook because it pulls so hard!!

he's in australia dude... wrong ocean lol.

:iagree: Yeah not America, Austalia only. They live in Brackish water, and then usually move out to reefs once the hit around 50cm. The catches in this video are really rare. It's becoming increasingly difficult to nab one of these bad boys over 50cm in brackish rivers. My biggest at 58cm was caught in almost full fresh!! I was pretty sure it was breeding at the time, genitals were really enlarged, colour was very dark and it was that time of year, so I released him/her. :headbang2

They actually do occur out of Australia though. A member here got his while diving near an oil platform off the coast of Qatar or Abu Dabi..
