Wild Marm not eating..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is a picture of him in the quarantine tank at my friends house.. notice the lack of patterning on him.. from time to time in my display tank where he is solo besides 3 redhooks, he has rosettes that appear along his side.. now mind you, my tank is dimly lit, black gravel and black background which can of course cause him to darken significantly. But he is an extremely drab grey color. He never has displayed a lighter then grey stomach when i am almost 100% sure that all marms reguardless of the variant have a white stomach. he does however have a bright orange tailspot. His eyes are quite dark, which i am pretty sure has something to do with the move and his stress level..

Hopefully some medication will help cure this guy from whatevers bothering him.. i ready to give this guy all the tlc he needs to become a great center piece..

His name is Turkey Btw...

I feel like calling him Crenicichla marmorata sp. black lol (see picture)

So after i got home and sat down in front of my tank and he was staring at me in all his very black glory it dawned on me.. This guy was always in with other fish, and now i took that away from him. I do have the dithers but they provide no incentive to be or act dominant in the tank. So i ran into the other room and pulled a mirror off the wall, ran back and put it next to the tank. Within seconds he was flaring and displaying, yellow eyes, rosettes annd he turned into a show Marmorata in the blink of an eye.. I then removed the mirror ( the wifey would be upset to see that i took her mirror and have it in my fish room ) and he went back to his regular drab self.. i think tommorow im gunna head to the lfs and see if i can get another type of cichlid to apply that "pressure" that he needs to be dominant..

Anyone have any thoughts?
Im definately going to hold off on the meds for a couple of weeks and let him settle in a little more..

The pictures dont lie.. this guy is quite the looker when he wants to be lmao..
