I just picked up a baby wild oscar to go with my tiger oscar. The patterns are amazing! I assume it will loose the patterns like other oscars as they grow. I was wondering what It will look like as a adult. Does anyone here have pics of there wild oscar?

coolio! all the wild type oscars i've seen had the same pattern but not as intricate with a eye spot on the tail and some orange mottled throughout. Most likely it's for camouflage when younger to hide in plants. I was reading an article on caudal eyespots as a deterrent for fin predation in Oscars. Since they have the eyespot, fin nipping piranhas can't tell which side of the fish is the head so they don't know where the tail fin is. After examining the stomachs of many Serrasalmus they found primarily fins of other cichlids that didn't have the eyespot. pretty cool stuff.

Good luck with the little guy, if i had the space i'd wanna have an oscar again.

I read that about the eye spot as well. It is so cool how different fish are designed and how little things like an eye spot actually serves a purpose.

Glad to hear you would like another one. I hear that allot from oscar owners seems oscar owners really like them. For the longest time oscars seemed kind of bla to me but recently I have really gotten hooked on them.

yeah they're so personable! If only their max size was smaller haha

That's the way I feel about RTC's lol. I think oscars are just the right size for what I am looking for. I wish they kept the juvenile pattern.

Oscars are a great size for the average aquarium enthusiasts, and great for dithers for us pbass guys ;)

What type of wild O is it? Do you know the collection point?

In all honestly though, I do like a nice Oscar. I wouldn't having some if I build the pond like I'm wanting to. Summer project here I come!
