Wild Oscar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oscar is a fish that does not have much prescription!
They have very strong personality!
It may be that you have three, and certainly, or may not give!
From what I have observed, the larger the number, the smaller the fights!
In my case I have a couple, and I'm even with their 15 day fry, in the spawning season I have to separate with an acrylic!
But for the rest of the time they live well with the third Oscar and the other fish!
I have along with them:
5 Silver Dollar
3 Parrot fish (they help to disperse rare fights as they enter into every fight but the flattened lips do not allow them to hurt anyone)
1 Red Pike (Jucunda Red Tapajos)
1 Cichla kelberi
1 Lepsosteus

Nice pick up, it does look like the pair I had in the past. Unfortunately you know from our PM's that I was never able to identify the catch location of mine or even confirm that mine where WC as the seller had claimed.

I figured a side by side may help to see the differences and similarities.

You can see the difference in the yellow/cream banding pattern as well as the placement and concentration of the red specks. Also I can't tell if yours has the black speckling near the gill plate since yours is pretty darkly colored in the pic. How ever I do that the pattern on the dorsal is the same which is very different from my Rubrocellatus who have between one and two eyespots on their dorsal instead. IMHO WC Oscars are better looking then most if not all the Captive bred varieties.

Mine gets that cream coloration as well. The colors fade and go depending on temperament.

Beautiful Fish, I'm particularly passionate about Oscar!
Here in Brazil we know as Oscar Tigre Common or wild!

That's awesome. I love seeing Oscars from Brazilian keepers. Always stunning.

Great looking wc oscar. What are the tank mates and tank size? I have always heard wc fish are somewhat more aggressive than cb fish, have you noticed any difference in behaviour?

Definitely more aggressive than any line bred I have kept, but I have been blessed with really passive Oscars. Each one has its own personality.
