Ok so my lfs had a tank labled wild tiger oscar next to their tank full of tiger oscars. These babies were huddle together in a school which i find a very strong characteristic of captive raised vs wild caught baby fish. When i asked, the employee said the wholesalers list listed wild tiger oscars and the other tiger oscars, but the dilemma is are they really wild and are they south american wild not south florida wild. How would i tell a wild from line bred regular oscar? Or is there just no way of knowing? Would a wholesaler/importer catch wild feral oscars here to sell?

The chances of them being wild are extreamly remote. Tiger Oscars are a man made strain, there is no such thig as a wild Tiger Oscar. If they were fished out of a canal in Florida they could be feral Tiger Oscars but that's about as close to wild as you can get.

tigers are a captive bred strain.

They have no orange. They are tiger patterned but black and gray stripes. No color what so ever. My question is would a wholesaler bother to go catch feral oscars? That was the employees argument...

Ok I'm confused. They are not "Tiger Oscars" they are just regular Oscars? Even if they are regular Oscars they may or may not be wild. There is no possibile way to tell by looking at them weather they are wild, captive breed or feral. I also have no idea as to weather or not a wholesaler would go catch them, you're in Miami so the chances are good it's a possibilty. It's going to come down to weather or not you believe what you're being told. If in doubt pass, if you like them get it.

Meh i got one anyway because i like the wild look to them. Wild as in not the same bright orange stripes everyone wants.
