These Heckels are from the Rio Unini and Abacaxi. What ever monster fish calls those rivers home are co-habitants of these Discus.

I've seen the advisory posted by so many that you are not supposed to have them in the same tank for this or that reason.

I chose to just enjoy combinations that I prefer to see in my tanks. I've been pleasantly surprised to find that combining them was no trouble at all and after two years of cohabiting the same tank they will continue to do so until I chose another combination.

Will it work for anybody? not likely. It may not be up to you. The fish have strange ways of deciding for themselves. Even fish of the same specie might not want to live in the same tank.

They huddle only when I open the garage door. The bright outside Sun makes them go to the farthest side of the tank from the door which makes it possible for me to take group pictures. Otherwise, they are all over the tank even without plant over.

I'm not really trying to breed them. Merely placed a breeding spot in case they surprise me.
 
The angels and Discus combo can be pulled off...you just have to be carfeul because most angels will pick on Discus if given the chance, and then theres the whole Angel carry a certain bacteris that the Discus immune system cant handle...the Only exception to this are the ALtum Angels( pictured above) as they do not carry this bacteria. They are also not as "aggressive" as other Scalare...aggresive being a relative term when you're on a monster fish forum...lol. Anyways, I as well as Matt and many others have combined ANgels and DIscus with no problem....If you choose to do so, you do at your own risk and need to find the right balance for it to work...

Also - DIscus and Angels do in fact inhabit many of the same rivers and tributaries as P. Bass, RTC, TSN, WOlf Fish, Arapaima, Rays, etc...most of the monster fish though are out in open water, or the river floor whereas angels and discus prefer to stay in cover, by the shoreline, bushes, driftwood, etc.. where they have cover and protection.
