Wild Umbee Pair

Very nice pair freshwaterpredators :), question, what is the purpose for the divider? You have a whole in it that allows both to go back and forth between the divider. I was thinking that there would be a hole in the divider that would only allow the female to go back and forth and not the male... I am just asking, just curious... I am thinking that maybe you don't really need the divider... Anyway, I love your Umbee :) I wish I had Umbees.

lol the divider is a pretty funny story. i originally had it set up for pairing them out. They established their own sides during pairing and her side is her safe zone. he'll just chase her over there when he wants alone time but never beats on her. its kinda like her cave. about a couplemonths ago i got sick of the divider and pulled it. after that she looked as if she had no safe zone and hid at top of the tank even tho he didnt do anything to her. so i put it back in and they went right back to normal behavior and breeding.

the hole is large enought for both to pass freely since i cant make one small enough just for her without him tryin to get thru plus when or if the crap hit the fan i wanted her to be able to retreat without cutting herself. it has a door i can pull up with fishing line attatched to separate if needed and all i have to do is lift the lid and they chill immediately then ill usher either one back to their respectable sides for a time out. im guessing its a psycological thing for them lol.
 
I will say general jr is a nasty dude. He chases the vontihillo alot especially during meal time. He likes to hit vontihillo as vontihillo trys eating. Vontihillo is bigger than general jr.

^^^ Whats really crazy is general jr is 2.5 inches now and beats on my 6.5 inch bala sharks. They swim in terror away from him when he throws himself around.

Jr is my smallest fish and rules the tank with an iron fist. He is growing nice. A good 1/2 inch in the 2 weeks I've had him.

That is really good to hear:) i hope he turns out to be exactly what you want. please post pics when you can. i have yet been able to grow my own out to see how they turn out. im just glad a few people like yourself has some so i can enjoy watching them thru you:)
 
Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since he came home. I will post my next update 2/12/2011 after 1 month and 1 day.
I think you will be suprised what he looks like by then.
I feed him as much as he can eat everyday. The moment he wants to eat he gets fed to his max. Usually every 3 hours he needs fuel.
I do 40% water changes every 4 days with a gravel vac and water temp is 84.5. I have it turned up to speed the metabolism and growth acceleration.

These photos of JR GENERAL were just taken.

Notice the orange on the gill plates and shaping of the anal & dorsal fins.

He is 2.5 inches exactly. I measured him when i netted him out of the tank.

He grew a solid 1/2 inch in 2 weeks.

I added a photo of the Carpintis Vontehillo which was also just taken.

:eek:WOW!! that lil guy is already rockin spangles and tons of potential. that is very sweet. im excited to see this one grow:headbang2
