Do you know which way the floor joist were running? I tell ya what, your understanding of this is off, no offense intended. But I guess I could just be lucky and not know what I'm saying. Though I do have a 450g tank currently sitting on the main floor above a basement, plus a few other tanks in the room. The house is 6 years old. And yes it is reinforced. Trust me though I've done more then my far share of researching and talking with structural engineers on this.

And yes houses aren't made the same, they are now engineer to actual specifications and better built. Do some research on the TGI engineered floor joist that are now used in new home construction, you'll see what I am talking about. My floor joist are on 24" centers again this is possible because of the TGI joists. Would love to chat more on this, but gotta get up for work in about 6 hours.

Well good night , i was just told this by my home builder ( I have little knowledge other than what ive been told). But the 210 messed up my kitchen. They should start making houses MFK certified. Holds a 500g upstairs!

What I did a couple months ago for my 150 gallon was this. First you want to set the tank over the floor joists not running with them. I went down in the basement and located were the tank was going to be setting above. I then went to the hardware store and bought a 4 x 6 and three basement floor jacks. Then went home cut the 4 x 6 down to the right length set it up on the joist and put the jacks under it. Now most of the weight from the tank is transfered down the joist and it will keep the floor from sagging.

oh that's all it need to support the house? 2 x 10s? i see your joists seem to be 24 inch apart, and that's pretty far man. so now i'm kind of confident to have the tank upstairs but i will for sure to put sister joists now.

i went to my LFS today and i asked them, they say it is fine when i told them the joists are linked in to the concrete. so i`m just going to put some wood under the tank to spread out its weightÉ

For my 220 i ran a 2x6 and a ajustapost works fine. if you keep it closs to the mane floor joist you sould be fine.good luck

sorry i have bad english, what you mean is you don't have anything in the basement to support it right? or you got a 2x6 in the basement joist? and yeah it is close to main floor joist, hope you can re-explain your meaning, looking forward for your reply! thanks!
