A bout 2 months ago we got a male rd to go with our female. Well yesterday he was dead in the tank they had 2 batches of fry and he really guarded them so much I don't think he ever ate. Is this possible does it happen often he never looked sick so starving himself is the only thing I can see. Anybody ever have anthing like this or what could it have been?

I've never had it happen to me but I've read about it happening to others. On a few occassions its been because a fishes long time mate had died and the got depressed stopped eating and just set in the corner of the tank until nature tooks its course. On a few other ocassions it was due to getting out competed for food but that doesn't really fit you situation.

No definetly not he was super agressive he bit my wife and drew blood. He just swam around looking to kill anything but his mate and fry.

when mating, fish let off some kind of hormone i believe-look into it, where they dont eat-if you are intentionally breeding them, i would let them spawn, then let them cool off and recoop ya know...
